Pekiti Tirsia Kali This is a combination of the fighting arts that originate in the Philippine Islands. There are many names for the various Philippino systems, and flavors of these various arts are taught at the academy, such as Pekiti Tirsia, Vee-Arnis, Lameco Escrima, and the Lacoste-Inosanto Kali. All of these arts have sections on stick fighting (escrima), which is extremely beneficial for learning footwork, hand-eye coordination, and self defense techniques for dealing with weapons. The arts are historically connected to families and tribal groups that lived in the region for several hundred years. Pekiti-Tirsia Global Organization: this site contains very good information on the nature and philosophy of the art. Pentjak Silat Serbatik Pentjak Silat is a term to describe the fighting art of Indonesia. As with the arts of the Philippine Islands, the area of Indonesia and the surrounding islands use many names to describe different arts, but this is the most common way to describe this fighting method in the United States. The greatest difference between the art of Kali and the art of Pentjak Silat would probably be the historic attachment or connection with the older Indian arts. There is a much greater structure in the way that Silat was taught in the older times and a much greater focus placed on the culture, traditions, dances, and other native aspects. It should not be thought, however, that this art is not extremely effective. Santa Cruz Silat Jun Fan The art of Jun Fan Gung Fu was conceived by the late Bruce Lee (1940-1973). Bruce Lee is generally considered the greatest martial artist of the twentieth century, however the art that he developed is still only known by a few individuals compared to many other arts that are public today. The art focuses on the four ranges of conflict and relies on the appropriate mixture of attributes (conditioning, agility, speed, timing, etc.) to obtain victory. Jun Fan is broken down into two sections, Jun Fan Gung Fu and Jun Fan Kickboxing. This art has everything needed to become proficient in the realm of self-defense and is a great way to begin the journey to Jeet Kune Do. Jeet Kune Do The late Sijo Bruce Lee and Sifu Dan Inosanto developed this concept. the basis of this art is the concept "absorb what is useful, reject what is useless". This is part of one of the main philosophies of Jeet Kune Do. The statement sets up a method of training that explores a person's ability to absorb the mental, physical, and conceptual views of an art, then once the art is understood, reject aspects of that art that are not acceptable for your physical make-up or mental point of view. Some of the arts which are commonly used for this training are: Other arts can be used. This list represents only a few that are commonly studied by Jeet Kune Do practitioners today.
